The advocacy group UsAgainstAlzheimer's has partnered with the CDC to launch a new Center for Brain Health Equity to address disparities in care for Alzheimer's and related dementias. The center — which is also being led by the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the National Black Nurses Association, and Alzheimer’s Los Angeles — is supported by a $1.5 million, five-year agreement with the CDC's Healthy Brain Initiative. In the next decade, nearly 40% of those in the U.S. with Alzheimer's will be Black or Latinx, and the center's work will focus on developing public health strategies specifically for those communities. The center will also serve as a hub for data on how disparities in dementia are influenced by other social determinants of health such as education and ZIP code.
