Community Outreach Specialist
Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance (YHAA) is looking for a community outreach specialist to assist with the planning and implementation of several YHAAs programs. These include the following:

STAR program
-
Yolo Mobile Meals for Healthy Aging

Health fairs
-
Emergency preparedness outreach
-
YHAA Phone Friends
Position Details
Pay: $18-$20 per hour
Hours Flexible
Half or full-time
Updated COVID vaccination required
Valid driver's license and access to your own transportation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
-
strong interpersonal and communication skills, both internally within the organization and externally with the community
-
an interest in helping your community and older adults
-
experience working in the community and/or with older adults
-
valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
-
highly preferred bilingual in English and Spanish or Russian
-
bachelor’s degree
-
graduate education
-
experience with health or social outreach

Program Details
Senior Technology And Resources (STAR) program
This program helps address a lack of technological resources and knowledge that is an obstacle for many seniors. YHAA has received a two-year grant to help address these issues by investigating potential causes and community needs, providing resources, and education.
Program Goals: to provide tablets & internet access with education & support by volunteer college students on how to use them.
Outreach specialist duties:
-
help organize the recruitment of the seniors
-
provide the initial set up and instructions to the seniors
-
coordinate with UCD, CSUS and other universities to identify student volunteers
-
maintain data for reporting
-
Provide ongoing outreach and support to the participants
-
Yolo Mobile Meals for Healthy Aging:
This program provides meals once a month to several sites in Yolo County to low-income seniors.
Program Goals: to help address access to nutrition for at-risk seniors while providing information to seniors on resources such as COVID, Phone Friend program, Case Management resources and other educational information.
Outreach specialist duties:
-
help with organization at these sites
-
order meals
-
be present during the meal distribution for additional outreach
-
record and organize data on those served

Health and Other Partner Fairs:
Health Fairs are returning and provide an excellent opportunity to collaborate with different communities.
Program Goals: to provide information about YHAA to the community and connect to other community organizations.
Outreach specialist duties:
-
research and collaborate to find out about upcoming Health Fairs
-
coordinate with the Health Fair organizers
-
attend with other YHAA staff and volunteers and distribute YHAA flyers and items
-
record and organize data on the approximate number of those contacted

Emergency Preparedness Outreach
This program educates community members on how to prepare for an emergency, including signing residents up for Yolo Alert.
Program Goals: to make sure our community, and especially older adults in our community, are prepared for emergencies.
Outreach specialist duties:

plan and implement educational events

attend outreach events to interact with the community

sign up older adults for emergency alerts

Phone Friends Program
This program connects older adults to volunteer callers, for consistent social interaction over the phone.
Program Goals: to help seniors stay socially connected, ensuring that older adults have the resources they need during COVID-19 and beyond.
Outreach specialist duties:

engage in community outreach to find participants and volunteers
-
connect older adult participants with volunteer callers
-
provide introduction and orientation for new volunteers and participants
